Mount St. Mary Academy inducted 31 students into the National Honor Society on February 7 at a ceremony attended by students, faculty and family. Inductees have maintained a 90 percent or higher average throughout their high school tenure and additionally have exhibited the qualities of leadership, service and character required of members of National Honor Society.

Speaking to the inductees, Mary Alice Demler, news anchor for WGRZ-TV, noted that life often follows an unexpected course. She advised the students to seek the advice of people they respect, such as family and teachers, as they prepare for their futures.

“Have a plan and then prepare to be flexible,” Demler advised.

Demler also spoke to members about the importance of their faith and suggested they use it as a guide to decision making in their personal and career journeys.

New National Society inductees were presented with candles as symbols of the Society’s efforts and pins to represent their accomplishments.

The new inductees will join 29 members of the Mount St. Mary chapter of National Honor Society who strive to demonstrate leadership and service to the greater community.

“These new National Honor Society members have worked hard, achieved much and attained tremendous successes,” said Principal Dawn Riggie. “We look forward to more great things from them in the future.”

Mount St. Mary Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1927, is an all-girls Catholic college-preparatory high school located at 3756 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore. Mount St. Mary’s is consistently ranked among the top ten Western New York public and private high schools.
